In what can be termed as a cagey affair, Tottenham Hotspur has come on top against the committed Reading side. Goal from striker Robbie Keane through penalty was enough for Tottenham to attain the all-important sixth spot in the English Premier League (EPL) at least for the moment. This victory means that Tottenham has now 48 points while the nearest rival Everton has 46 points with game in hand. If Everton manages to beat Aston Villa today they can take over the sixth spot from spurs.
It is worth mentioning that team who attain sixth spot in the EPL this season will also be eligible to play in the next season UEFA Cup. Earlier, Tottenham was allotted the penalty after Reading defender Greg Halford handled the ball in the area in the 39th minute. Though, Reading goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann stopped lots of clear-cut chances from the likes of Berbatov and Keane but in the end one goal cushion proved enough for Tottenham.
